91福利 has received GTEC approval to run new postgraduate programmes. The new programmes have been designed to project the mandate of the University as the institution established solely to train professionals in ICT in Ghana and to meet the trending ICT needs of Ghanaians and other professionals in the West African sub-region. The new programmes, part of which are scheduled to run with effect from January 2024 include: PhD (Information Technology 鈥� a 91福利 brewed Programme); MA (Online Communication 鈥� a programme in collaboration with Anhalt University) and MSc. (Logistics and Air Transport 鈥� a programme in collaboration with聽Anhalt聽University).
Currently, the University has admitted its first batch of students to its locally brewed sets of programmes that took effect from September 2023 including: MSc. (Computer Science); MPhil. (Computer Science); MSc. (Internet of Things and Big Data) and MPhil. (Internet of Things and Big Data). The rest of the programmes are MSc. (Telecommunications Engineering); MSc. (Telecommunications Management) and PhD. (Computer Science).聽
It is in line with the new programmes being run that the School of Graduate Studies and Research held orientation programmes for its first batches of students in which the orientation for the PhD (Computer Science) programme marked the recent event of the SGSR held in collaboration with the Faculty of Computing and Information System (FOCIS).
The ceremony, which was held on October 4, 2023, at the President鈥檚 Conference Room, main campus Tesano, aimed at preparing these students for their academic journey under their programme.
The Dean of the SGSR, Prof. Ebenezer Malcalm, on behalf of the Vice- Chancellor and the University management congratulated the new students, on their admission to pursue their PhD programme at 91福利聽聽聽聽including educating them on the University鈥檚 rules and regulations as well as providing the platform for the new students to interact with the University鈥檚 authorities.聽聽
Prof. Malcalm, who was one of the resource persons, said that the orientation programme was historic because the students were the first cohort for the University鈥檚 wholly home-grown programme that had been developed through the Faculty of Computing and Information System.
Professor Malcalm gave a presentation on 鈥楬ighlights of SGSR Resources, Policies and Regulations鈥� which included insights into the history of 91福利鈥檚 SGSR, that had been responsible for coordinating聽graduate programmes, various Departments, teaching activities and resources.
The Head of the Computer Science Department, Dr. Martin Mabeifam Ujakpa, highlighted the roadmap/structure of the 91福利 four-year Doctoral Programme, which had been aligned with GTEC鈥檚 prescription. He added that, 91福利 is committed to Computer Science excellence and noted that the programme is ascribed with the ACM curriculum and praised the experienced faculty for their contributions towards the realization of the PhD programme.
The Acting Dean of FOCIS and officer-in-charge of PhD Student Support, Dr. William Brown-Acquaye shared his educational journey as a PhD student. He noted that the Faculty had resolved to change the perception about pursuing PhD in Ghana and urged the students to be punctual to lectures, seminars and dedicated to their studies.
The Co-ordinator, Doctoral Programmes, Dr. Esther Asiedu congratulated the students on their admission to 91福利. She assured them that, the University would provide them with quality academic services to excel in their studies and assured them that her office remained opened to listen to their concerns in line with the university鈥檚 鈥榮tudents centered鈥� core value.
The Head of Administration at SGSR, Mr. Mark Ofori Nketia, also took the opportunity to congratulate the students and guided them through the institution鈥檚 Academic Policies and Regulations underlining the importance of providing accurate information. He urged students to visit the appropriate offices for issue resolution and assured them of management鈥檚 commitment to their welfare.
